Background & Origin

Roger rose from obscurity to captain the Roger Pirates, taking on the young Silvers Rayleigh as his first mate. Together they built a crew strong enough to challenge every sea.

Driven by boundless curiosity, Roger pushed deeper into the Grand Line than anyone before him, chasing the secrets the World Government had buried for eight hundred years.

Story & Growth

Roger and his crew became the only pirates ever to reach Laugh Tale, the island at the end of the Grand Line, and there they learned the true history of the world. Roger took the title of Pirate King.

Stricken with an incurable illness, he disbanded his crew and turned himself in to the World Government. At his public execution he laughed in the face of death and told the world his treasure — the One Piece — was real and waiting for anyone bold enough to find it. With that, the Great Age of Pirates began.

Abilities & Powers

Roger was a master swordsman and a peerless Haki user, commanding all three colours — including a Conqueror's Haki strong enough to shake the world.

He also possessed the rare gift of hearing 'the voice of all things', an ability that let him read the ancient Poneglyphs and uncover the secrets of the lost century.
