Background & Origin
Moria was once a far more ambitious pirate, captaining his own crew with dreams of conquering the New World.
That dream was shattered when his entire crew was wiped out by the Emperor Kaido. The loss broke something in Moria — and he resolved never again to rely on a crew that could die, vowing instead to build an army that could not.
Story & Growth
Moria settled on the gigantic ghost ship Thriller Bark, gathering a small crew of oddities and amassing a horde of zombies powered by stolen shadows.
His plan to build an unbeatable undead army collapsed when the Straw Hat Pirates arrived; Luffy defeated him and freed the shadows he had stolen. He was later stripped of his Warlord title.
Abilities & Powers
Moria ate the Kage Kage no Mi, a Paramecia Devil Fruit that lets him control shadows — cutting them free from their owners and stitching them into corpses to create powerful, obedient zombies.
He can also hide within shadows and command an entire army of the undead, making him most dangerous not in person but through the forces he controls.
