Background & Origin

Brook was the musician, and later captain, of the Rumbar Pirates. Half a century before the present, his crew met a small whale named Laboon at the foot of Reverse Mountain and promised to return to him after sailing the Grand Line.

The Rumbar Pirates never made it — every one of them was killed crossing the deadly Florian Triangle. But Brook had eaten the Yomi Yomi no Mi, and his soul found its way back to his own body. By the time it did, only his bones remained, and he drifted alone in the fog for decades.

Story & Growth

Brook spent years trapped on the ghost ship Thriller Bark, his shadow stolen by Gecko Moria. When Luffy defeated Moria and returned his shadow, Brook joyfully accepted a place among the Straw Hats as their musician.

During the crew's separation he became a world-famous rock star, the 'Soul King', and later turned both his fame and his powers to crucial use — even slipping away with one of the road-map Poneglyphs from under an Emperor's nose.

Abilities & Powers

The Yomi Yomi no Mi let Brook cheat death once, and now lets his soul leave his skeletal body to scout ahead or chill enemies with a deathly cold. His bones make him astonishingly light and fast — light enough to run across water.

He fights with a slender cane sword in a swift drawing style, and is a master musician whose songs can soothe, rally, or directly affect those who hear them.
