Background & Origin

Born Vinsmoke Sanji, the third son of the Germa Kingdom's royal family, Sanji was raised amid genetic experiments meant to forge its children into emotionless soldiers. He alone emerged with his heart intact, and for it he was scorned and abused by his father and brothers until his sister Reiju helped him flee.

At nine, working aboard a passing ship, Sanji was cast into the sea alongside the pirate 'Red-Leg' Zeff. Stranded together on a barren rock, Zeff gave the boy all of their food — and part of his own leg — to keep him alive. The two were bound by a shared dream of the All Blue, a legendary sea said to hold every fish in the world, and Zeff went on to raise Sanji at his floating restaurant, the Baratie.

Story & Growth

Sanji joined the Straw Hats after they defended the Baratie from the pirate Don Krieg, taking the role of the crew's cook. His loyalty was tested to its limit at Whole Cake Island, when his birth family forced him into a political marriage and he left the crew to spare them — only for Luffy to refuse to sail on without him.

Choosing the Straw Hats over his blood family, Sanji has grown into one of the crew's strongest fighters, his power sharpened by both his brutal childhood training and the latent gifts of his Germa lineage.

Abilities & Powers

Sanji fights exclusively with kicks, keeping his hands safe for cooking. His self-named 'Black Leg' style is built on overwhelming speed and power, and includes Diable Jambe — legs heated red-hot through friction — and the more recent blue-flamed Ifrit Jambe.

His dormant Germa heritage has begun to surface as superhuman durability and bursts of speed. He also wields both Observation and Armament Haki, putting him far above the reach of an ordinary fighter.
