Background & Origin
For many years Teach served quietly in the second division of the Whitebeard Pirates, biding his time. His patience ended when he murdered a fellow crewmate, Thatch, to seize the Devil Fruit he had long coveted — the Yami Yami no Mi.
With that betrayal Blackbeard left the crew and set his own pirates loose upon the world, beginning a swift and ruthless climb toward the top.
Story & Growth
Blackbeard captured Portgas D. Ace and handed him to the Marines, lighting the fuse for the Marineford war. In the chaos after Whitebeard's death he committed his most infamous act: by an unknown method, he stole the dead Emperor's Gura Gura no Mi for himself.
Now carrying two of the most fearsome Devil Fruits in existence, Blackbeard rose within two years to claim a seat among the Four Emperors — and continues to hunt powerful Devil Fruit users across the seas.
Abilities & Powers
Blackbeard wields the Yami Yami no Mi, a Logia of darkness that swallows everything — including the powers of other Devil Fruit users, whom he can hold helpless and strike.
He also carries the Gura Gura no Mi, the tremor fruit taken from Whitebeard, able to shatter the air itself with earthquakes. No one else has ever been known to survive wielding two Devil Fruits.
