Laffitte was once a policeman in the West Blue — until he was stripped of his badge and exiled from the entire sea for his excessive, unnecessary cruelty toward the very people he was meant to protect.

He turned pirate, and was invited to join Marshall D. Teach's crew as one of its original members.

Laffitte serves as the navigator and chief of staff of the Blackbeard Pirates, and rose with them as they climbed toward the rank of an Emperor.

A quietly influential operator, he was the one who manoeuvred to have Blackbeard considered for a seat among the Seven Warlords of the Sea — a piece of political scheming far beyond an ordinary pirate.
