Background & Origin

Kawamatsu is a fish-man who, on his mother's dying wish, lives as a 'kappa' — a creature of Wano folklore — to survive in a country wary of outsiders.

A yokozuna-ranked sumo wrestler, he became a retainer of the Kozuki family and one of Oden's Nine Red Scabbards.

Story & Growth

After Oden's death, Kawamatsu took in his orphaned daughter Hiyori and protected her — and was eventually imprisoned for years in the labour camps of Wano, enduring captivity without ever breaking.

Freed in time for the rebellion, Kawamatsu joined the raid on Onigashima, fighting once more for the Kozuki cause he had never abandoned.

Kawamatsu is a skilled samurai swordsman, fighting in a self-styled 'Kappa' technique, and as a fish-man he possesses strength beyond an ordinary human's.
