Background & Origin

Arlong once sailed as a member of the Sun Pirates, the fish-man crew led by Fisher Tiger that freed enslaved fish-men.

But where Fisher Tiger fought for liberation, Arlong nursed a deep hatred of humans, believing fish-men inherently superior. He broke away to form his own crew and crossed into the East Blue to rule humans by force.

Story & Growth

Arlong seized the islands of Nami's homeland, killing her adoptive mother Bell-mère and forcing the gifted young cartographer into his service.

His tyranny ended when the Straw Hat Pirates arrived. Luffy defeated him and tore down the fish-man's reign — freeing Nami's village and clearing the way for her to truly join the crew.

Abilities & Powers

As a saw-shark fish-man, Arlong possesses immense physical strength far beyond a human's, and is perfectly at home fighting underwater.

His most fearsome weapons are his teeth — rows of jagged, replaceable shark teeth — and a literal saw-shaped nose he uses to cut through almost anything.
